Dr Raqibul Mohammad Anwar worked as a Laparoscopic Colorectal and General Surgeon at Bart’s and the Royal London Hospital NHS Trust.
He did his MBBS from Dhaka on 1980 and after graduating from Birmingham Medical School in 1986 he completed his House Job and Basic Surgical Training mainly in the Midlands. He has extensive and varied training in General and Colorectal Surgery having Specialist Training from the Wessex and South Thames region of England. He worked as a Resident Surgical Officer at St. Mark’s Hospital in London and as a Visiting Colorectal Consultant at Singapore General Hospital. His training in laparoscopy is based on specialized courses in minimal invasive surgical techniques in Switzerland, Germany and France and Training Fellowship in Laparoscopic colorectal surgery at the Texas Endo- Surgery Institute, San Antonio Texas, USA.
Dr Anwar was commissioned by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth ER in the United Kingdom Armed forces and was promoted to the rank of a Colonel in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He served in the British Army with distinction. During his distinguish career in the United Kingdom Armed Forces he was awarded UN and NATO, Danish Army and French Armored Division medals. For his gallantry service to the American and NATO Military personnel and his contribution to the Health Sector Reform in the Balkans he was awarded American Army Achievement medal (AAAM).
He has been awarded a Masters in Health Policy, Planning and Financing for London School of Economics as well as from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London. He completed a Masters in Medical Education from University of Bedford and Hertfordshire. His previous appointments include being the Lead Consultant for undergraduate teaching at Imperial College in London and Cambridge University Medical School.
Dr Anwar has attended conferences, seminars and symposiums both nationally and internationally as a guest speaker, moderator and presenter in the UK, US, India,Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Malta, Middle East and the Balkans. His favorite topics include Colorectal cancer, both screening and management, laparoscopic colorectal surgery, enhanced recovery plans among others. He is a reviewer and author of a number ofpublications in peer review journals.
